Works for me: Cooking Double

Well, according to Shannon it's time again for "Works-for-Me Wednesday".

My idea is certainly not original. There have been a number of books written about once-a-month-cooking (aka "freezer cooking") and there's even a website devoted to the finer points of cooking in bulk. I must admit that I've yet to master the once-a-month marathon cooking session, but I DO try to make it a habit to double whatever I'm making for dinner several times a week. It's just as easy to whip out two meatloaves instead of one, and when I know a family who could use a meal, it's no trouble at all to write out the baking instructions on an index card, tape it to the top and off we go. It also helps everyone involved if at least some of those "extra" dishes are in disposable containers.

Great idea! Something to put on my "gotta try someday" list!

I am still trying to buy in bulk...and then put into smaller ziploc bags. Vegies, fruit, etc. They say this helps for healthy snacking....I've done it...and it does work.

Thanks for the tip.

I LOVE OAMC. It's been a while since I've practiced it, though. Thanks for the inspirational "push"! ;)

Thanks for the reminder. I have to remember to do this more often.

I used to do OAMC-- long ago.

Now I do a lot of my meats in bulk. (Cook up a bunch of hamburger or chicken.)

Last month, I got together with 2 friends and we cooked in bulk together. We came up with our menu ahead of time and one friend did the shopping. When we got together, one of went to town on making everyone 2 lasagnas each. Another went to town making everyone 2 Poppyseed chickens. We each went home with about 12 dishes. That was really nice.

I like doubling dinners much better than once-a-month cooking! So much easier! Enchiladas and Lasagne are especially easy for this.
